The Haryana government has decided to observe August 20, the birth anniversary of late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, as 'Sadbhavana Diwas.' An official spokesman said the theme of the 'Sadbhavna Diwas' was to promote national integration and communal harmony among the people of all religions, languages and regions.

Goodwill towards everyone and eschewing violence were the two main mottos of the Sadbhavana Diwas, he added. He said an all faith prayer meetings would be organised followed by administering of the 'Sadbhavana Pledge' on this day.

Appropriate measures would also be taken to organise programmes in Universities, Colleges and Schools ensuring that the solidarity pledge was administered. To promote this theme further, the state government has also decided to observe Communal Harmony fortnight from August 20 to September 3, the spokesman added.
